Founder & Director, Pagna Cambodian Education Fund Organization (PCEFO)
Srey Sambo, widely known as Pagna, was born in 1984 into a humble farming family in rural Cambodia. Growing up in a household where his parents worked tirelessly as farmers, Pagna experienced firsthand the challenges of poverty and limited access to education. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance.
As a child, Pagna helped support his family by waking up early each morning to sell vegetables to villagers in nearby communities. This daily effort not only contributed to his family’s income but also shaped his character, instilling in him a strong sense of determination and compassion for others facing similar hardships.
Educational Journey
Despite financial challenges, Pagna remained deeply committed to his education. His journey reflects resilience and a belief in the transformative power of learning:
- 1990 – 1995: Completed primary education at Lvea Primary School
- 1996 – 2000: Attended Taey Secondary School
- 2001 – 2004: Graduated from Angkor High School, Siem Reap
- 2006 – 2009: Earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from National University of Management (NUM)
- 2016 – 2018: Completed a Master’s Degree in Business Management from NUM University
Through dedication and persistence, Pagna overcame financial and social barriers to achieve higher education—an accomplishment that would later inspire his mission to help others do the same.
Professional Experience
Pagna built a strong foundation in both technical and management fields before dedicating himself fully to education and community development:
- 2006 – 2008: IT Manager at Sun City Casino, Siem Reap Province
- 2006 – 2009: Software Repair Technician at SP Computer Shop
- 2010 – Present: Founder & Director of PCEF Organization
These early roles developed his leadership, technical, and problem-solving skills, which later became essential in managing and expanding his nonprofit organization.
Founding of PCEF Organization (2010 – Present)
In 2010, driven by his own life experiences and a desire to give back, Pagna founded the Pagna Cambodian Education Fund (PCEF).
He began by offering free English classes to children in Kampong Phluk floating village, one of the most underserved communities in Siem Reap Province. At the beginning, there was no formal school—classes were held inside or underneath his home, depending on the season.
Starting with only a small group of students, Pagna’s initiative quickly grew through community trust and support from international volunteers and donors. Over time, this small effort expanded into a structured organization.
Today, PCEF operates schools in both Kampong Phluk and Lvea Village, providing free education to hundreds of rural Cambodian students each year. The organization not only teaches English but also promotes community development, confidence building, and future opportunities for young people.
Pagna’s vision is simple but powerful:
to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to education and the opportunity to build a better future.
Personal Life
In 2010, Pagna married Leng Saivong in Kampong Phluk floating village. Together, they have built a strong and compassionate family.
